The Te Ika o te Raki (PE Team or Organisation) award recognises a group, team, syndicate, department or school’s excellence in Physical Education curriculum delivery.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Open to any group or organisation delivering the New Zealand Physical Education Curriculum.
- Must be or be employed by a licensed or certified early learning service or kōhanga reo; or a registered primary, intermediate, secondary or area school, kura or wharekura.
- Can be nominated by any individual or organisation.
Award Criteria:
- The nominee will demonstrate a sustained commitment to delivering high-quality Physical Education programmes that align with the national curriculum.
- The nominee will demonstrate innovative and effective teaching methods that engage learners, support diverse needs, and foster quality Physical Education experiences. (e.g. integration of creative lesson planning, cross-curricular connections, meaningful assessment practices, etc…)
- The nominee will demonstrate inclusivity and a commitment to reflecting the cultural diversity of their learners.
- The nominee will demonstrate leadership in Physical Education. (e.g. sharing practices, mentoring colleagues, or contributing to professional development initiatives within their region or nationally, etc…).
Additional Requirements:
- The nomination will include endorsements from students, parents, staff, or community members who can attest to the nominee’s excellence in delivering Physical Education.
- This should include collective and sustained effort to further the cause of Physical Education in a school, kura, centre or learning area.
- This may include advocacy within the school or centre for Physical Education and leadership in bringing together members of their school community to further the aims of Physical Education.
