The Te Aranga o Puanga (PE Educator in First 5 Years) award recognises a teacher in their first five years of teaching. They demonstrate a passion for, and have made a notable contribution to, the physical education of tamariki and rangatahi.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Open to any individual with less than 5 years teaching experience.
- Must be a registered teacher, with a current practising certificate (either full or provisional).
- Must be currently employed by a licensed or certified early learning service or kōhanga reo; or a registered primary, intermediate, secondary or area school, kura or wharekura.
Award Criteria:
- The nominee distinguishes themselves from the other teachers, (e.g. innovation, creativity, initiative or going above and beyond)
- The nominee's physical education teaching is of a high standard and demonstrates a high level of commitment and ability (e.g. planning, teaching and commitment are exemplary, they show a high level of competence in delivery).
- The nominee’s physical education teaching contribution has a positive impact on those around them, in terms of vision, influence, and outcomes (e.g. impact on students, influence on others to adapt practice, exemplary vision and achieves set outcomes).
Additional Requirements:
- Supporting material should explain how the nominee’s performance fulfils the criteria as outlined.
- Careful attention should be given to the nature of the individual’s contribution.
- Although new to the field, the nominee needs to have demonstrated a passion for, and made a notable contribution to, the physical education of tamariki and rangatahi. It is expected that supporting evidence would be provided as a part of the nomination process.
