The Research & Innovation in PE award recognises groundbreaking research or innovations that have positively influenced PE teaching and learning.

Eligibility Criteria:
  1. Open to any individual or group.
  2. Can be nominated by any individual or organisation.
Award Criteria:
  1. The nominee must have conducted original research or implemented an innovation within the physical education field that contributes to new knowledge, methodologies, or approaches. This could include academic research, curriculum design, or the development of new PE technologies or resources.

  2. The research or innovation should have demonstrable benefits for PE teaching and learning, such as improving student engagement, enhancing physical literacy, supporting inclusivity, or fostering lifelong physical activity habits. Evidence of impact might include results from pilot programmes, feedback from educators and students, or quantitative measures of success.

  3. The research or innovation must have a practical application within PE contexts, allowing teachers, coaches, or schools to implement it effectively to enhance the PE experience. Research should be relevant to the New Zealand context and address the specific needs of tamariki, rangatahi, and diverse communities.

  4. The nominee should have actively shared their findings or innovations with the PE community, fostering collaboration and encouraging others to adopt or build upon their work. This could include presentations at conferences, publication in academic journals, or partnerships with schools or organisations.

  5. The research or innovation should demonstrate inclusivity and cultural responsiveness, ideally integrating Māori values, language, and perspectives on physical education, as well as being accessible to learners from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Requirements:
  • The nominee must be endorsed by colleagues, researchers, or community members who can attest to the quality and impact of their work. Additional testimonials from educators, school leaders, or those who have benefited from the research or innovation are encouraged.
