Open Letter: The Future of Physical Education in Aotearoa
This afternoon (Friday 24th Oct) Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ) has written to the Minister of Education to express our concern about the redevelopment of the Health and Physical Education curriculum.
The curriculum now being developed and written by the Ministry does not appear to reflect the intent, evidence, or depth of Physical Education as a learning area.
Our preference is to support and strengthen this work, not to oppose it. We’ve asked to meet with the Minister, and for a pause to be placed on the release of the draft, to ensure the final curriculum reflects the knowledge, pedagogy, and cultural integrity that define Physical Education in Aotearoa.
