Kia ora Koutou,

I have always loved Physical education and Outdoor Education and Health Education and every kind of Education that has the ‘physical’ in there. I headed to PE school at Otago in 1981, and aside from a wee stint as a journalist in between, have taught Physical Education in one way or another since 1989 – in schools, universities and now tangentially through my role as Director of Te Ngira Institute for Population Research. I joined PENZ as soon as I started ‘training’ to be a PE and Music teacher and never left. I’ve been a member, a board person, a president and now a happily confirmed ‘lifer’.  Physical Education curriculum, policies, priorities and politics may have changed but the people at the heart of the profession have not. Life membership keeps me connected to them!
