As a Subject Advisor at Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ), Marisa McKay specialises in supporting teachers to develop confident, purposeful, and effective Physical Education practice. As a qualified teacher and accredited facilitator with background in primary teaching, she brings expertise in curriculum, pedagogy, assessment.
Marisa is passionate about:
- Shifting perceptions of Physical Education beyond sport and the development of sport-specific skills
- Supporting teachers to understand PE as meaningful learning through movement
- Advocating for inclusive and accessible Physical Education that enables every learner to participate and experience success
- Building teacher confidence and capability through practical, evidence-informed professional learning
- Supporting teachers to design purposeful learning experiences that respond to the needs of diverse learners
- Advocating for the value and place of Physical Education within the curriculum
Through her work with PENZ, Marisa develops resources, facilitates professional learning, and works alongside teachers to strengthen the quality of Physical Education in schools. She is committed to supporting a shift towards PE that prioritises learning, inclusion, movement experiences and lifelong participation.
