Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ) is the national organisation supporting physical education teachers, educators, and school leaders across Aotearoa New Zealand. We're dedicated to empowering educators and helping schools deliver high-quality, inclusive physical education that reflects the diverse needs of all learners. PENZ provides:

- Curriculum-aligned resources and practical teaching tools
- Consultancy and expert advice
- Advocacy for physical education at local and national levels
We ensure every educator has access to trusted support, no matter their school size, location, or budget. Our work strengthens physical education nationwide and helps create active, healthy futures for all learners.

This work brings together the voices of our community. Teachers, leaders, academics, and rangatahi have all contributed to shaping a clear and grounded articulation of quality Physical Education in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is not a response to the draft. It is a statement of intent about the role and value of our learning area.
We know this is a time of significant change. There is pressure, uncertainty, and a real need for clarity. Our hope is that this Value Proposition reconnects us with what we value most. Movement as learning. Learning as connection. Physical Education as a space where ākonga can experience success, identity, and belonging.

Join the PENZ Board in 2026
Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ) is seeking expressions of interest from experienced governors to join our Board from 2026.
As the national professional association for physical education in Aotearoa New Zealand, PENZ exists to lead, advocate for, and strengthen quality physical education and movement experiences for all young people. We are committed to supporting healthy, active, and thriving communities through strong leadership, meaningful connections, and future-focused thinking.
We are currently looking for two new Board members who are passionate about education, movement, leadership, and making a positive impact across Aotearoa.
We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in:
Board leadership and governance
Fundraising, sponsorship, and financial oversight
Digital innovation, AI, and emerging technologies
Strategic growth and organisational sustainability
PENZ is a hardworking and highly collaborative Board that values strategic thinking, strong relationships, diverse perspectives, and a sense of humour along the way.
