Sir Alexander Gillies Medal
The Sir Alexander Gillies Medal recognises distinguished and outstanding service to Physical Education New Zealand and the profession of physical education.
The award is the most prestigious that Physical Education New Zealand can grant and it is awarded rarely for outstanding sustained, career-long services of national or international significance to the profession.
Life Member
The award of Life Member may conferred by Physical Education New Zealand on members who have given long and distinguished service in the cause of physical education.
Fellow of Physical Education New Zealand
The award of Fellow is granted to members who are regarded as having made a significant contribution to the purpose, aims and work of the association. This award recognises and honours Physical Education New Zealand members who have made sustained and significant contribution to Physical Education New Zealand and the physical education profession.
Rising Star
The Rising Star Award recognises a teacher in the early stages of their teaching career who has demonstrated that they make significant contribution to the physical education of students. This award was previously called Outstanding New Professional.
Excellence in Physical Education
The Excellence in Physical Education Award recognises a syndicate, department or school’s excellence in physical education curriculum delivery. This award was previously called Outstanding Physical Education.
Outstanding Physical Education Teacher
The Outstanding Physical Education Teacher Award recognises a Physical Education New Zealand member who has made a significant contribution to the physical education of students.

Tama te Uira me Hine te Uira
Tama te Uira me Hine te Uira recognises a teacher who is making a significant contribution within a physical education space.
Tane Pepeke
The Tane Pepeke award recognises an individual or group who have used a Te Ao Māori lens to achieve outstanding results within a physical education space.
Lady Joan Gillies Undergraduate Student Award
This award recognises excellence in critical evaluation by a tertiary student on a physical education topic.
AS Lewis Student Award
This award recognises excellence in critical analysis by a secondary school student on a physical education topic.
Te Iho-Takaro Ringawera
This award is made by the Physical Education New Zealand Board for contributions to the profession that may be leftfield because at times they will be removed from the day-to-day work of Physical Education. The contribution is “golden” in that it is often done in obscurity but is highly prized as in the distinguished and respected work of a ‘ringawera’. This annual award will be passed on from one awardee to the next at the award ceremony at National Conference. Nominations are not called for this award.
